Cool Kids

It's that time of year again. We all make the transition from bathing suits and shorts to long sleeves and winter hats. Here at Iona, I always feel like I'm missing the memo on proper attire for this warm/cold/fall season. For example, when it's raining out, everyone is wearing shorts and flip flops, but when it's actually VERY NICE OUT, and I decide to throw on my shorts for one last go, I see everyone wearing jeans, long sleeve shirts, and theit constantly polished Nike Whites. *It never seems to happen but I love when the weather is just right to wear shorts and a long sleeve shirt...Nothing says, "Check me out, my choice of wardrobe is contradicting, but I still remain warm and stylish." FTW.*

Something I'll never get about NY, that's one of them. And Cablevision. Over the past year we've lost channels like the Food Network, ABC, and currently Fox for long periods of time. This FOX ban is the longest that I've experienced and it pisses me off when I'm seeing my bill go up and up. And I love the commercials we get to see as well from Fox, Cablevision, Dish Network, Verizon, and Direct TV telling me I've made a horrible decision! Switch over here! It's like a breakup and all the drama is being broadcast over the air in the form of PSA's and commercials.

Hey Bryan, we're sorry about what Cablevision did to you. We don't mean to hurt you. We just want more money. Need anything buddy? Some Hot Cocoa? Buffalo Wild Wings? Let's go see a movie some time.

Love,

Potential Cable suitors.

Lunch for $7.50 in NYC! And it's not even a pretzel or hot dog...

I'll make this short and sweet. Lunch today. Heard about this Thai place called Spice on 2nd Ave and East 6th. Ordered Chicken Pad Thai and it came with a free appetizer! I chose the spring rolls. They were delicious. Overall, the bill came to $7.50! Amazing! Im in heaven right now! Plus - It's always Sunny in Philadelphia to watch during lunch...can't get any better!

My delicious lunch. So Cheap! :'( Tears of Joy!

Applefest 2010

I may or may not have completely overshadowed the fact that I went on a huge Apple picking spree last Sunday. I spent most of the day at Outhouse Orchards in Croton Falls, NY. It's about 40 minutes upstate and I'm pretty damn sure the metro north has a station there. *Just a fun little fact* I drove my Neon up with Michelle, Nonners, and Rourke. It's a good thing they cam along because they ended up kicking my ass at picking apples to say the least. I'm used to farms that the highest apple you can get is within arms reach, or a small jump towards the sky. These trees were like 20 feet high! WTF! Who does that? And of course it says "no climbing trees" and "Poison ivy on everything!" I don't believe you....Well luckily mostly all of the trees were so large that you could set up a small hobo camp in the middle of the tree and no one would notice. $25 and 73 apples later we were finished picking. Now that $25 is for one bag and that was only for Michelle and I. We will evade scurvy for quite some time. (Now I'm assuming their is a lot of Vitamin C in apples thus adding validity to this statement.)

The day at Outhouse Orchards was spent getting fries, some delicious homemade donuts, and waiting 45 minutes in line for a smoked turkey leg which pleased me very much! Oh, and I walked away with a pretty damn good pumpkin too. Success. My fall is well underway.

Now with 73 apples comes a lot of baking responsibility. So on Monday, Michelle and baked an apple pie, apple muffins, apple bread, and Apple sauce (which meant to be cider but it didn't turn out as we had planned) Delicious....all of them! Still got a good 40-50 apples left. Yikes

First pie I've ever made (with some help of course) I'm a pro

*Different Story for a Different Day*

Went to one of my favorite places on North Ave the other day and saw these little guys calling out to me from behind the pane of glass. I had a sneaking suspicion as to what they are and my question to the guy working there only confirmed and added to my excitement! Baked Mac n Cheese Sticks! How delightful! I ordered 1 for $1 and the guy said he would warm it up and bring it to me. I ordered a sub as well (a "wedge" if you live in Westchester County, NY) so don't think I'm on weight watchers or anything. OK. so moral of the story, the guy completely blew me off so when I finished my sub/wedge, I reminded him and he gave me an additional 2. So 2 + 1 = 3 = 2 Free for me :) They were delicious to say the least. If you're around 752 North Ave some day...Pick these little guys up. They're begging to be eatin'
Whose a wittle Mac n Cheese guy...You are!

"So Many Activities!"

Look at me! Two followers! 4 if you count Michelle and my mom (whose name coincidently is Michelle...I know my gf has the same name as my mom...but feel free to mention it to my face next time you see me just to make sure that I 100% know for sure. k thanks :)!

This weekend was highlighted by an epic amount of activities! Here's a list

  1. 3 hour rowing practice with T_Scifes n the Glen Island Geese
  2. A little ice skating sesh at the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon(which ended up influencing number 7)
  3. Food shopping
  4. Frozen yogurt with Kayla, Ryan, Brian, and Michelle. (Never get to hang out with Kayla but it was a good change of pace from the usual crowd of Pelhamdalers. Note: I need to increase and interweave my circle of friends for optimum efficiency and good time havingness.) I tried the white peach frozen yogurt and it was amazing. Like crazy amazing. Topped with strawberries and I died on the spot. Wish I remembered what the place was called because I'm going back next time I have the chance. Oh..and they won me over with self-serve free sample cups! FTW!
  5. Party City for a little Halloween costume search. Found a costume. Wait til the 31st to see what it is! For those who did see or who like to snoop through my ridiculously big closet, don't tell plz. Honors system here people.
  6. Pizza Hut! Quinny or Nonners led the charge on this one. We may have ordered too many pizzas and we may or may not have felt like fat-asses afterwards. Especially with the family size order of cheesy sticks which are pizza without sauce. haha. what a world. Oh and Pizza Hut and B Wilds might as well be the same thing.
  7. Mighty Ducks move night! Ducks fly together! It's not worth winning if you cant win big! You coulda been one of the greats! Quack Quack Quack Mr. Ducksworth. Yessssss.
Yes Charlie...Skate your way into our hearts! And don't forget
to "Triple Deke" along the way!

Note to self: Begin research on where all the mighty ducks ended up...I'm curious to find out where standouts like Connie and Jessie ended up. We all know Charlie ended up on the hit TV show...What was it called? Frappe? Frink? Fringe. yup. That one. A far cry from his promising future in the Mighty Ducks....

I'm going modern all over your @$$

I have seen the future. And it is good! Yesterday was all about design/modern blogs and I found some of the most fascinating sights with new products and concepts alike. I want to be rich already so I can satisfy my hunger for sweet ass modern furniture and gadgets! Check out some of the things I found most interesting from my research....

USB Outlet!
This makes so much sense!

Non-Fogging Mirror/Shower head
Can't wait until that mirror is a TV someday! Soaps while ya soap? Sports while ya shave? Yes please

This isn't a product. This is a guy's apartment. It was so small he was able to get every little bit of use out of every bit of space he had. It just reminds me of a tree house sort of thing. I would love to live here for a week. Not sure for a lifetime though. Not good for having guest over.

Pool/Bath/Spa
Bath that submerges into a pool? Hell yes!

Part 1 of 2 - Luxery RV
I've always wanted to ride around in an RV but this is just too good to be true
Part 2 of 2 - Luxery RV

The Michelin Man

In almost 5 months of interning now, I finally got my first "bitch" intern project. The company I am at has the guidebooks that we are giving out an an event tomorrow. On the backs of these little booklets are 3 twitter handles urging people to follow the company on twitter based on region. Naturally, 2 of the handles were spelled the wrong way and it was my job to take white out and "erase" 2 letters from each of the booklets. It only took an hour or so not too bad. It's also interesting to note that the client that the booklets are for has been dishing out some of the more "unique" jobs as of late. Last weeks task included walking around New York City and take photos with people dressed up as the Michelin man. Unfortunately I was not able to do this because I don't intern on Wednesdays. It sucks! Perks for that job included $100 bucks cash, Free Lunch, and being the friggin' Michelin man! I guess deep down, I've always wanted to have a go at being a mascot or someone in an awesome costume for just a day. Can you blame me? Maybe I'll get to dress up as the Gael for one of our fall races this year like Wickers did last year. That would make my year....

That could have been me! haha
